JCIBI’s Green Kayak event – peddle for cleaner Oceans

On Saturday 30 September 2025, part of our JCI Berlin International crew, gathered together for another sporty event!

As JCI Berlin International, we love to make a positive impact on our social and natural environment. Therefore we were delighted to find out about “Green Kayak” (https://lnkd.in/epmUr8c). Green Kayak is an environmental NGO that engages people in the fight for cleaner oceans. Since its founding in 2017, it has already removed 154 tons of waste.

On a perfectly sunny day, we went to Treprow-Köpenick and boarded some double-kayaks, armed with a waste bucket an grabber arms, ready to find us some trash!

In the beginning the river seemed pretty much clean, but upon further inspectation we managed to find a bucket full of the weirdest things. From a single flipflop to empty bottles, from childrens toys to candy wrappers and from a glass lamp to a navigation system.

After 1,5 hour we came back ashore, happy, fullfilled, a bit wet and very motivated to do this another time.

We would recommend anyone to check out the Green Kayaks website and see if there is a place were you can waste pick and kayak (for free) in your neighborhood and make a small but lasting impact.

We definitely will be back.

Thanks Green Kayak and Iryna Borovyk Marion Baroux Iris Schelfhout for all your efforts!
